Adoptions
A Goathouse Refuge cat will be a rescued cat or kitten from this community.  They may have been given up by the owners in person, found living outdoors, picked up from animal shelters in the area or any other way a cat or kitten may find itself all alone in the world and in need of rescuing.

A Goathouse Refuge cat will have been spayed or neutered, unless we have records or proof that this has absolutely been done previously.  They are tested negative for HIV/feline leukemia, given their first shots, de-wormed, and observed and treated by local Veterinarians for any other conditions they may have.  They are socialized in a loving environment with other cats and plenty of humans.  After an initial quarantine period where they are kept caged, they are released into the Refuge and allowed to run around freely all day, in the evening they are gently escorted back to their cage for the night.

We currently have about 50 cats available for adoption.  There are "studio cats" which are sponsored by The Goathouse Refuge.   There are IAR cats, those that we foster for Independent Animal Rescue in Durham.

We work closely with IAR on many levels, fostering, fund raising, and events.   We share a similar philosophy about rescue and giving animals a chance of a good life.

If you choose an IAR cat for adoption, you would simply go through their process, paperwork, etc., and it is very close the the Refuge process.    Please see their site for details, and arrange to come by the Refuge to see the individual cats.
